Doing More with Less (2 Part Series)

You are, after all, dealing with people with five decades+ of experience, an array of skills, and a keen desire to serve. Self-directed teams are small groups of volunteers who manage themselves and the work they do with the assistance of an external coach. Teams satisfy people's need for choice, flexibility and autonomy while helping non-profits tackle big issues. Learn how self-directed teams work and how to harness their power for your organization.

Intergenerational Mentoring: A Strategy for Supporting Vulnerable Youth (2 Part Series)

Mentoring is a strategy for meeting the needs of high-risk youth that is gaining increased attention from practitioners, policymakers and funding agencies. The ever increasing numbers of people 50+ are in an ideal position to act as mentors. They have time available and a lifetime of experience in work and caring for family. Learn about effective program models and tips for startin a program in your community.

Are Today's Volunteers a New Kind of Volunteer?

In many ways yes. Learn who they are, what motivates then, important differences among them and how they can help you deliver more impact, meet more of your mission, and get more done!

Is Your Organization Ready for a New Kind of Volunteer?

Never worked with volunteers at all?  Worked with volunteers but mostly younger people?  Find yourself trying to manage volunteers in your non-profit who have come from a corporate environment?  Concerned about integrating people 50+ with younger staff or volunteers?  This session will help you assess your readiness as an organization to recruit and retain people 50+ including staff attitudes, organizational infrastructure and work environment.

How to Use Your Creativity, Imagination and People Skills

To develop compelling opportunites for people 50+ that they will find meaningful... and that will mean you will realize substantive outcomes.

What is Your Message to Volunteers?

It's the vision, ideas, and images you must create and infuse into all your communications with people 50+ that will make them think, "Now, that's where I want to volunteer!"

Community Treasures: Recognizing the Contributions of Older Refugees and Immigrants

As America grows older and more diverse, people age 50+ from all cultural backgrounds represent a vast resource for communities.  Though human service practitioners and researchers are beginning to recognize the benefits of connection and contribution, both for individuals and the larger community, scant attention has been paid to the characteristics of civic engagement among foreign born elders.  This session will focus on understanding why and how older foreign born adults contribute to their families and communities and identify promising practices that support the engagement of these elders in meaningful roles.
